Terms and Conditions

Last updated: April 12, 2026

1. Agreement to terms

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of BasilTax websites, applications, and related services (collectively, the "Service") operated by BasilTax ("we," "our," or "us"). By creating an account, clicking sign up, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Not tax, legal, or accounting advice

BasilTax is software intended to help you organize information and understand estimated tax-related figures. We are not a certified public accountant (CPA), enrolled agent (EA), law firm, or certified tax preparer, and we do not provide professional tax, legal, or accounting advice. Nothing on the Service is a substitute for advice from a qualified professional who reviews your complete situation.

3. Estimates only; not for direct filing

Outputs shown in the Service (including computed or displayed amounts, explanations, and summaries) are informational and illustrative and may be based on incomplete data, assumptions, or simplified rules. They are estimates and approximations, not a guarantee of your actual tax liability, refund, or any amount on an official return.

Do not file tax returns with the IRS or any state or local tax authority using BasilTax output as your sole or final authority unless and until we clearly communicate that a specific feature is intended and certified for that purpose. You remain responsible for verifying all numbers and for any filing you submit.

4. Roadmap: certifications and filing

We are working to enhance the Service and pursue the certifications, partnerships, and technical measures that may be required to support direct e-filing or other regulated filing workflows in the future. Until we explicitly offer such a feature and describe it in product terms, you should assume the Service is for preparation, education, and estimation—not for filing your return through BasilTax.

5. Eligibility and accounts

You must provide accurate registration information and keep your credentials confidential. You are responsible for activity under your account. You must not use the Service in violation of law or in a way that could harm others or our systems.

6. Your content and documents

You retain rights to materials you upload. You grant us a limited license to host, process, and display your content solely to provide and improve the Service, as described in our Privacy Policy. You represent that you have the right to upload the materials you provide.

7. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, or that any estimate or explanation is accurate for your specific tax situation.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, BasilTax and its suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us for the Service in the twelve (12) months before the claim or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars (USD $100), except where prohibited by law.

9. Indemnity

You agree to defend and indemnify BasilTax and its affiliates, officers, and employees against any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms.

10. Changes

We may modify these Terms at any time. We will post the updated Terms on this page and update the "Last updated" date. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice where required by law. Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, excluding conflict-of-law rules, unless a different governing law is required by applicable mandatory consumer protection rules in your jurisdiction.
